One of the areas that I have lately been thinking about, alot, is how we utilize (or should say underutilize) our resources.For example, we have church buildings that are only occupied about 10% of the time, and 90% of the time sit empty. Yet they have to be heated, cooled, insured and maintained all of the time.
Often we have lawns that are only used for mowing, and parking lots that are only used for parking. Could we not find additional uses for our facilities?At Calvary, I am glad to see us making better use of our grounds with the community market we had last Summer.
We are also using our building better, by hosting Scouts, ACTS ministry classes (Turningpoint), Senior activities, weekly meals on Sunday night, training classes and Spanish language services on top of our regular worship times.But I think we need to continue to explore ways to maximize our resources.In the next post, I want to think about ways to maximize the use of our manpower.

- Pastor Rex Deckard was born in Bloomington, Indiana. He received his BS degree from Indiana University, his Masters degree from Trevecca College, and did post graduate work at the University of Tennessee. He is a licensed K-12 School Administrator and a certified teacher. Pastor Deckard has been involved in a variety of ministry roles: planting churches, home missionary work, curriculum development for Word Aflame publications, teaching overseas in Papua New Guinea, and leadership development. His writing has been featured in numerous magazines, both secular and Christian. He has pastored churches in Tennesee, Indiana and Iowa. He is the Coordinator of Apostolic Training Institute, a distance learning initiative of the Home Missions Division, and is a member of the Iowa District Board of the United Pentecostal Church. Family and Interests The Deckard family consists of wife Brenda (both a musician, songwriter and nurse), daughter Emilile (student at Des Moines Area Community College) and son Rex Adam (student at Iowa Christian Academy).
